V takes top spot

According to Comics Continuum V For Vendetta has taken the number one spot at the US box office over this weeken'd opening with a box office haul of over $26 million. No idea how it has fared at the UK box office this weekend, although the showing I was at had a huge audience. And I was impressed - naturally it isn't perfect and there are some changes from the source book, but these have mostly been made to make the story work as a film rather than a graphic novel and also to make it feel more contemporary (which again a film version needs) but as someone who has read and re-read the original many times over the years I felt the changes were in keeping with the spirit of the book. If you haven't read the book (as will be the cases for many audiences I suspect) you will have no problem understanding the film either - but you should do yourself a favour and read it sometime, it really is one of those books that you should have on your shelves.
