DW in NYT

ICV2 reports that the new Doctor Who series, currently airing on the SciFi Channel in the USA, enjoyed a full-page article in the Sunday edition of the New York Times, with positive comments throughout. Alas you need to subscribe to read the actual article on the NYT's site, but great to see the new Who picking up rave reviews outside its core UK audience and proof that Davies et al are really doing something right to appeal to a broader audience and not just old fans like myself as we sit in front of our TV clad in our Tom Baker scarves.

It is a little ironic given the same SciFi Channel originally turned down the new
Who series last year because they didn't think it would 'travel' (presumably meaning they think American SF fans can only understand American SF, which a cursory glance at the bestselling SF books list would undermine in seconds) - still, at least US fans are now belatedly getting the new Who, as UK fans get excited for the second season's approach. SF novels and shows getting more and more broadsheet coverage... My goodness, are we becoming respectable???
