Yes, the bilingual announcement can mean only one thing – Canada’s premiere comics awards nominations, the Shusters, have been announced. Named, of course for the late, great Joe Shuster who worked on many a comic throughout his career but is best remembered for being the co-creator of the most iconic superhero character in comics, Superman. The awards are to be presented at the annual Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon (April 28-30, 2006) and are for works published during 2005.

Note: For the purpose of defining writer vs. cartoonist, writers who also drew their own stories are classified as cartoonists, not writers. However, a cartoonist can be nominated for writer if someone else drew the work in question.

A Cartoonist is someone who wrote and illustrated their own work. If someone else wrote the work they are only eligible as Artist, if someone else drew the work they are only eligible as Writer.
