Katsulas passes
Sad news on SciFi Wire today, as it reports that the actor Andreas Katsulas passed away at the far-too-young age of 59 from lung cancer. Andreas had appeared in numerous stage, TV and film roles, with many genre entries including Alien Nation, Max Headroom and various Star Trek episodes. However, to most of we SF fans he will forever be associated with the role of the Narn ambassador to Babylon 5, G'Kar in J M Straczynski's superb (in my humble opinion) series.
Although Bab 5 to my mind suffered - as many long running shows do - from its fair share of wooden acting it also boasted some truly remarkable thespians. Andreas was certainly one of those (in my not very humble at all opinion); acting through layers of prosthetic make-up he infused a fine mix of nobility and fussiness into the role, bringing comedy and tragedy to the role with equal dexterity. He truly owned that role by the end of the series' five year run.
