Ban the Bond?
A group of 007 fans, outraged at the casting of actor Daniel Craig as the new James Bond, have launched a website calling for fellow Bond fans to boycott the new movie currently in production, Casino Royale. The site explains that they are incensed over the questionable way the producers got rid of Pierce Brosnan and that they think a huge mistake has been made by casting Craig.
This comes just after recent reports that the actor had teeth broken in a stunt fight for the movie which went wrong recently. He has had support though, whith respected actor and former Bond nemesis Christopher Lee stepped forward to defend Craig and asked the media to stop laying into him when they haven't seen what he can actually do with the role yet. I wasn't happy about the way Brosnan was let go from the franchise either and I must admit Craig didn't leap to mind as a potential James Bond, but it does seem rather unfair to damn an actor before you've had a chance to see his portrayal.
A lot of media and groups almost seem to want the film and the actor to fail; personally I would like to see the film and Craig disprove my misgivings over his casting by being a success. Besides I still remember how outraged many fans (including myself) were when Neil Jordan cast Tom Cruise as Lestat in Interview With The Vampire, only to find out that he was actually rather good in the role when it was screened.
