Star Trek Manga

Joshua Ortega is to script a new tale set in the universe of the original Star Trek as part of the 40th anniversary of the series next year. Tokyopop has commissioned Ortega to create a new tale, executed in the Manga style, featuring the classic Star Trek characters from the original USS Enterprise.

"It's truly an honor to work with such legendary characters and concepts. Captain Kirk, Spock, and Dr. McCoy? It doesn't get much better than that. I grew up on Star Trek, and the stories, techonologies, and ideas presented in The Original Series have had a profound influence on my work. It was such a groundbreaking series–in every way, " Ortega was quoted as saying.

Not content with one set of classic SF characters, he has also been busy working on a project for Dark Horse, according to Toy News International, as well as a story for Star WarsLegends of the Dark Night. I'm curious to see what Captain James T Kirk looks like as a Manga character; will his shirt still get ripped in every fight scene?
