The Edinburgh Evening News reports that the Royal Bank of Scotland is spending thousands of pounds to transform the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh into the fabled Hogwarts, home to Harry Potter and his wizardly chums. The bank has its own corporate bash on Saturday 19th of November – the day after the movie’s general release – for selected employees and clients. The theatre will be transformed by a set to resemble Hogwarts while there will be costumes, conjurors performing tricks, live owls and even projected images of Quidditch games overhead before the screening of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The Dominion in the city’s expensive Morningside area (expensive even by Edinburgh standards that is) is handily adjacent to the RBS’ chief executive’s home and also close to the author J K Rowling’s Edinburghhome. It is also a rarity in our modern corporate world – still a family run cinema, even after all these years. It is a gorgeous and incredibly friendly cinema – I’ve seen the owner in evening dress for the opening of major films, talking to the audience and asking them how they enjoyed themselves; you just don’t get that in multiplexes which is one reason why it is beloved of Edinburgh's movie-goers. After the early morning screening the set will stay in place for the Saturday so other fans flocking to the Dominion to see the new Harry movie can also enjoy it.
