OZ SF

Following up from the recent information on the Australian SF awards that author Marianne de Pierres kindly sent us, I’ve had a very interesting follow up courtesy of Rowena, who is happy to give us a peek into the world of Australian SF&F (thanks, Rowena!). Marianne and Rowena will be appearing on one of the many panels at this year’s Worldcon to highlight Antipodean SF to the rest of the world – another good reason to attend this summer.

"I belong to a group called Fantastic Queensland (because we live in
Queensland, you know beautiful one day, perfect the next!). Our goal is to promote Aussie Spec Fic. In cooperation with Dirk Strasser we run the Aurealis Awards. We successfully wooed the US Clarion people and have run two Clarion Souths based here in Brisbane with International tutors, Ellen Datlow, Michael Swanwick, Nalo Hopkins and David Hartwell.

We also run EnVision, a workshop where aspiring novel length writers get to polish their manuscripts under the mentorship of published writers. As well as this they get to meet editors and agents. We also run the $10,000 writing for games project. We'll be hosting Conjure, the Australian national SF Con in April next year."
