SF fans are in a state of surprise today after the BBC announced Christopher Eccleston is stepping down from Doctor Who after only one season in the role over fears of typecasting and a desire for new projects. Coming only days after a triumphant first episode which held some ten million viewers attention and drew good reviews (oh, it was very good, wasn't it? I want more!), most fans are a little taken aback that the principal actor should announce he’s stepping down already – I mean, give us a chance to get the action figures into the stores before you leave, Chris! The good news it that the series looks set to return for a second run and that we should have New Who merchandise for you later this year.
