The Crow
The Crow
James O'Barr's now-classic graphic novel of love lost, violence and supernatural justice. Eric Draven, a young musician, is murdered by thugs as he tries to save his fiancé. Raised literally from the grave he is guided by a crow who has returned his soul to an indestructible body so he may take revenge and serve justice on those who took the future from his wife-to-be and himself.
Much of the artwork is executed in very heavy black ink and often reminds the reader of the work of earlier artists like Will Eisner. Flashbacks to happy moments from his life are presented in a monochrome watercolour fashion which is beautiful yet terribly sad, reminding us that with love we risk pain. A beautifully moving tale of love mixed with action and revenge and a figure who would become a comic icon and inspire the movie from Alex Proyas.
