Milo Manara

Born in Italy in 1945 Milo Manara has carved out a very special niche in comics history, successfully combining a free attitude to the depiction of the naked female form and sexual matters with a genuinely artistic approach. Indeed his love of painting shows through in much of his work and the influence of classical masters such as Rafael are apparent.

While the frank and adult nature of much of his work may put off or even offend some sensibilities (but then some find Michaelangelo's David offensive!), in Europe and in select circles in Britain and America he is esteemed as a genuine artist and an important contributor to our genre.
