DC Archive Editions are a prestige hardback format which collects classic comics material from DC's vast 60-year plus library. While there are more modern entries such as the New Teen Titans, the principal focus is on Golden Age and Silver Age material from the 1940s, 50s and 60s - rare and often not republished for decades, the early genesis of characters we love so much.
It includes long-gone characters who inspired later ideas, such as the Golden Age Green Lantern and those who have not only remained popular with readers for six decades but gone on to become icons of popular culture around the world, instantly recognisable to all: Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and, of course, the last son of Krypton, Superman - an idea thought up by two Jewish kids in New York which has become an institution.
Sure, some of it may seem odd to modern eyes on occasion, but this is pure comics history - much of it unavailable to fans for decades (unless you had thousands to spare on ultra-rare early issues!) and now made more accessible for collectors in these handsome hardbacks. But its more than comics history (and also a cultural history of the 20th century as the characters and creators reacted to the changing world around them) - they are, first and foremost, damned good comics, with most being offered at a handsome 30% discount!
